FOOTBALL…IT’S MORE THAN JUST A GAME

Skill – Attitude – Discipline

We want our youth to demonstrate character at the highest level. After they have demonstrated exploits of greatness on the field, we want to continue to read about our kids, the accomplishments and contributions they are making to society. We want our kids to become adults who don’t forget the sacrifices made for their success. We want our kids to be great role models, great parents and great citizens.  Big City Football will not turn away any kid who wants to participate in football or cheerleading regardless of ability to pay. The seven core values of Big City Football are emphasized to our players, cheerleaders, parents, owners, coaches, staff and volunteers.

Mandatory Play Rule

Big City Football has a mandatory play policy. Your children must play a minimum of 6-8 downs per game. These plays are not on kick off or special teams, but from the line of scrimmage. If your child has not played prior to the fourth quarter, he must remain in the game until he has fulfilled the mandatory play rule.

Academic Success

Many great athletes never make it to the professional level because of poor grades. We track our kids in the classroom and offer proactive methods for learning. We have partnered with educators and tutors who will work with your child to help them develop study habits and master difficult subjects. Any student who graduates from high school with a 3.5 GPA or higher are eligible to receive a scholarship from Big City Football.

Health & Nutrition

Obesity is a national problem with youth and adults. We offer health and nutrition classes for kids and adults to help them develop proper eating habits and a exercise routine that works.  We want the kids on the field active, physically fit and healthy.  We also offer diabetes prevention courses through our partnership with Voices of Detroit Initiative (VODI).

Coaching School

These courses provides instruction parents to help them understand the game of football as well as the commitment needed if their child plans on playing at the next level. Instructors provide a basic knowledge of the game, understanding of positions and coaching strategies. It also encourages parents to get involved in their child’s academic career.

Certified Instruction

All BCFL football and cheer coaches are required to be certified and receive eight (8) hours of classroom and field training each season. This ensures that your children are given the best instruction available. They are expected to demonstrate character and respect at all times as ambassadors of the league.  Our LRE TM Certification provides our clubs with information on how to demonstrate best practices as a professional organization.

Big City Athletic Foundation

The foundation was formed in 2012 to provide grants to organizations to help advance the mission and vision of Big City Football.  The initiatives of the foundation are health, fitness and nutrition, academic success, leadership training and economic development.
